Encoding of Natural Scenes by the Retina: from neuroscienceto robotics
报告摘要:
How natural scenes are encoded by retinal ganglion cells(RGCs) is still an unsolved problem. Here, we study how natural scenes arerepresented in the RGC responses by recording spikes from isolated retinas witha large-scale multielectrode array. We developed a data-driven approach,spike-triggered non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) for characterizing thesubunits of receptive field of RGCs . I show that knowledge about the subunitsis important for predicting RGC’s responses to natural images. I furtherdemonstrate that how these neuroscience observations are transferred toneuromorphic chips for the next generation of artificial retina and robotics.
